Capsule Home Decor By Style

If you follow allow on the blog you know I am a huge fan of seasonal capsule wardrobes. The concept allows you to build off a foundation of great basics. The same is true for styling your home. Adding in seasonal or trend pieces here and there is a great way to accentuate the fabulous collection of home decor staples you have built in your home.

I am going to share 12 home decor pieces I think should be in every home decor capsule collection and then a collection of these pieces broken down into 3 home decor styles I love. You can certainly combine some of these styles, as I do, but for the sake of this concept I am going to cover COASTAL, MODERN, and MINIMALIST interior style.

STAPLES IN YOUR HOME DECOR CAPSULE

  • Vases
  • Coffee Table Books
  • Trays
  • Lamps
  • Bowls (and bowl filler)
  • Plants (real or faux)
  • Cute Storage (boxes or baskets)
  • Throw Blankets
  • Throw Pillows
  • Decor Accents (like beads or objects to place over books)
  • Mirrors
  • Wall Art

1. Vases

An easy way to decorate your home for the seasons is to swap out your vase filler for something more seasonal. I live in Florida so I usually just cut things from around my neighborhood but I also have faux stems as well. In the summer I love fan palms, in the winter I love evergreen branches.

SHOP VASES:

2. Coffee Table Books

Coastal-inspired decor featuring a white coral sculpture stacked on coffee table books, styled on a woven console table. A perfect blend of natural textures for a modern coastal home.

While it’s nice to have styling books that actually have good content, for me the look for the book is pretty important. It’s more of a styling piece than a learning tool for me. I have tried the faux books (they’re cardboard boxes built to look like aesthetic books) and I think for areas where people won’t be eyeing them up close (some shelf styling, in my bedroom) these are a more affordable alternative.

SHOP COFFEE TABLE BOOKS:

3. Trays

A well-placed tray instantly adds structure and polish to any surface. Use them to corral small items on a coffee table, create a stylish vignette on a console, or keep essentials organized on a nightstand. I have some tray styling tips here. Whether you prefer woven, marble, or lacquered styles, trays help tie decor elements together effortlessly.

SHOP TRAYS:

4. Lamps

Good lighting is essential for a well-styled home. A mix of floor lamps, table lamps, and sconces can add warmth and dimension to any space. Opt for classic silhouettes in neutral tones for versatility, and swap out lampshades or bases when you’re ready for a refresh.

SHOP LAMPS:

5. Bowls (and Bowl Filler)

Decorative bowls are both functional and beautiful. Use them to display seasonal fillers like pinecones, moss balls, or shells, or let a statement bowl stand alone as an artful centerpiece. Materials like ceramic, wood, or marble can complement different home decor styles.

SHOP DECORATIVE BOWLS:

6. Plants (Real or Faux)

A touch of greenery instantly brings life to a space. Whether you prefer fresh plants or high-quality faux options, adding greenery to shelves, countertops, or tables is a great way to enhance your decor. Choose low-maintenance options like snake plants or fiddle leaf figs for an effortless, timeless look.

SHOP FAUX PLANTS:

7. Cute Storage (Boxes or Baskets)

I love storage that doubles as home decor. Stylish storage keeps your space tidy while adding texture and warmth. Woven baskets work well for storing blankets or toys, while decorative boxes help conceal clutter on bookshelves or coffee tables. Opt for natural materials for a more organic feel or sleek designs for a modern aesthetic.

SHOP STYLISH STORAGE:

8. Throw Blankets

A cozy throw blanket not only adds warmth but also layers texture into your decor. Whether draped over a sofa arm, folded at the foot of a bed, or placed in a basket for easy access, a neutral or subtly patterned throw can transition seamlessly between seasons.

SHOP THROW BLANKETS:

9. Throw Pillows

Throw pillows are one of the easiest ways to refresh your space. Stick to a neutral base and swap in seasonal or textured options for variety. Mixing different sizes, fabrics, and patterns creates depth while keeping your decor cohesive. I also have another blog post with my 3 tips for pairing neutral pillows.

SHOP THROW PILLOWS:

10. Decor Accents (Beads, Objects, or Sculptures)

Decorative accents like wood beads, ceramic knots, or sculptural objects add personality to your home. Layer them on books, trays, or coffee tables to create visual interest. These small details help pull a space together while allowing you to showcase your personal style.

SHOP DECOR ACCENTS:

11. Mirrors

A well-placed mirror can make a room feel larger and brighter. Whether you choose an oversized statement mirror, a round accent mirror, or a sleek modern design, this versatile decor staple enhances natural light and creates a focal point in any space.

SHOP MIRRORS:

12. Wall Art

Art brings character and warmth to your home. Whether you prefer framed prints, canvas paintings, or gallery walls, investing in pieces that reflect your style ensures your space feels curated and personal. Mix different mediums and sizes to create a layered, cohesive look.
